Talented Miami Heat rookies Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro are having an incredible start to their careers and along with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Justise Winslow, they lead the team as part of a very strong core. Veteran forward Udonis Haslem recently said that Nunn and Herro's 'drive' is similar to his and that they will succeed in the NBA. “We have a lot of guys that have a chip on their shoulder, something to prove, so naturally it’s in a lot of these guys’ DNA,” Haslem told Andre Fernandez and Manny Navarro of The Athletic: “You know me. I always keep a chip on my shoulder, and if I don’t have one, I create one or I find one. These guys don’t need me to do that for them. They’re built like that.” Haslem pretty much implied that he sees himself in these two young rookies, which is obviously a high compliment based on Haslem's importance to the team over the years and his accomplishments over his career. Kendrick Nunn has a lot to prove since he went undrafted. As of December 12, he is averaging 16.2 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 30.5 minutes over 24 games, shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from beyond the arc. Tyler Herro does not act or play like a rookie and he provides a spark off the bench for the Heat, leading the second unit with Goran Dragic. Herro has been able to exceed expectations as well, averaging 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 28.7 minutes over 23 games (three starts), shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from 3-point range. The Heat are in second place in the Eastern Conference with an 18-6 record. Herro and Nunn are playing a big part in their success.
