French Open Betting Preview

The 2019 French Open has been going on for over a week, but the action is really set to pick up as we head into the quarterfinal matchups. Roland Garros is once again the host site for this prestigious event, and the all clay surface is always a difference maker in this Grand Slam event. There have been a few upsets already, with most of these coming on the women’s side of the bracket. Most of the favorites heading into this tournament are still alive, and should make for a terrific final week from Paris, France. Odds have been changing throughout the tournament, and they will continue to be updated as new players are eliminated. Let’s breakdown the men’s and women’s singles brackets and find the top betting pick before the quarterfinals begin this week.

Men’s Singles: Most of the top men’s seeds have advanced to the quarterfinals round, and it should make for a terrific final few days. Here is the updated look at the top five players heading into the quarterfinal round:

Rafael Nadal -140
Novak Djokovic +250
Dominic Thiem +650
Stefanos Tsitsipas +1800
Roger Federer +1800

It should be no surprise that Rafael Nadal has the best odds to win the 2019 French Open due to his dominance on the clay court in his career. Nadal has won 11 French Open Championships in his career and has to be considered the favorite until someone knocks him off. Novak Djokovic is actually the top seed in the French Open but he has not been able to get past Nadal on the clay court surface at the French Open. If you are looking for an upset pick then you might look to Stefanos Tsitsipas at +1800. Tsitsipas has already beaten Nadal on a clay court surface this season and should have plenty of confidence if he ends up meeting Nadal at some point in this tournament. Roger Federer is always a player in this tournament as well, but he just doesn’t seem to be playing well enough to pull off this upset. Nadal and “The Joker” should be the top two betting options at the French Open, but there is no way you should bet anyone but Nadal in this tournament. Rafael Nadal is the king on a clay court and taking him at -140 is the right bet as we head into the French Open quarterfinals.

Women’s Singles: The women’s side of the French Open appears to be way more wide open, and there really isn’t anyone that is a clear-cut favorite. Serena Williams was eliminated in the round of 16 and that took out one of the tennis players that should have had a shot to win this tournament. There are a ton of intriguing names left in this tournament with just eight tennis players left remaining on the women’s side of the bracket. Here are the top five players in terms of odds to win the French Open:

Simona Halep +150
Garbine Muguruza +700
Sloane Stephens +800
Ashleigh Barty +900
Marketa Vondrousova +1400

While Rafael Nadal has completely dominated on clay surfaces on the men’s side of the bracket, that hasn’t been the case for anyone on the women’s side. Any of the final eight players could pull off the victory at Roland Garros this week, but we are going to focus on a past champion. Simona Halep hasn’t exactly been dominant on clay court surfaces in her career but she won this tournament a year ago. Halep has had little trouble so far in the earlier rounds and she looks poised to repeat as a champion this season. Sloane Stephens should be the biggest challenger in the quarterfinal round, but betting on Simona Halep at +150 is the right bet on the women’s side of the bracket in the French Open.
